Château de Ravenel: holiday-let apartments on a château estate in the Oise
The Château de Ravenel stands in the village of Ravenel, in the Oise department of Hauts-de-France, about 74 km from Paris. Expedia lists four separate holiday-let units on the estate, from a suite to a whole three-bedroom house, so a stay here is a self-catering stay in a château setting rather than a hotel stay. The estate’s ornamental garden is on the pre-inventory of remarkable gardens.

Staying at the Château de Ravenel: holiday lets on a château estate
A stay at the Château de Ravenel means renting one of the holiday units on the estate, not a room in a traditional château hotel. Expedia lists four: La Suite du Parc, which is the listing linked from this page, Le Loft des Charpentiers du Roi, L’Orangerie and Le Salon Royal. They are managed by a professional host and rented for commercial purposes, and all are non-smoking.
The photos show how different they are. The loft has brick walls, exposed wooden beams, several bedrooms and two bathrooms. L’Orangerie is described as a whole holiday house with three bedrooms, a living room, a dining area set for four and a kitchen. Le Salon Royal has a living room with a large corner sofa and a fireplace, a modern kitchen with a dining area and a table-football in the corridor. For La Suite du Parc the listing shows a bathroom with bath and shower.
Pets are allowed according to the listing, and extra guests may be charged depending on the property’s rules. Check-in is from 4 pm and check-out is at 11 am. The listing does not describe meals, so it is best to plan on self-catering and to check details of each unit before booking.

The history of the Château de Ravenel
16th century – The lordship of Ravenel belongs to the de Ravenel family.
16th century – It then passes to the Guillebon family.
1750 – It is sold to a Monsieur Bouchart, who resells it to the Prondre de Guermantes family.
19th century – Louis Ernest Prondre hands the lordship to his daughter Emma Louise Joséphine Prondre, who marries Count Joseph Marie Scipion de Chazelles.
1855 – The estate passes to the next generation, when a daughter marries a senior finance official who later becomes mayor of Ravenel.
1969 – The same family keeps the château until this date.
French Wikipedia traces the lordship of Ravenel back to the 16th century and lists its successive owners, among them the Guillebon and Prondre de Guermantes families. The text does not describe the architecture or the exact age of the present buildings, so this page does not either; the photos of the château and the listing give the best impression.
The ornamental garden of the château is on the pre-inventory of remarkable gardens, according to the same article. The surrounding village takes its name from the ravenelle, the wild radish flower, and sits at 115 m above sea level on the open Santerre plateau.
