Staying at the Château du Mas: a country château west of Lyon
The Château du Mas is a stay in Bessenay, a village of about 2,300 inhabitants on the edge of the Brévenne valley, 8 km south-west of L’Arbresle and about 20 km west of Lyon. French Wikipedia lists the château du Mas among the village’s sights, and an engraving in an illustrated dictionary of the Rhône communes shows the “old château du Mas”. Beyond that, little is documented about the building itself.
Expedia’s listing is brief and practical. In the rooms it mentions Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels, a bath or shower, a hairdryer, soap, toilet paper, an iron and ironing board and central heating. The property also has laundry facilities and a dryer, and internet access in some public areas. The listing reads like a self-catering or guesthouse-style stay, but it does not say whether guests rent individual rooms or the whole house, so check the details on Expedia before booking.
The village has a few cafés and eateries within walking distance, according to Expedia, and the countryside around invites quiet walks. Lyon, with its historic centre, is a straightforward drive away.

What is known is that the château du Mas is counted among the heritage sights of Bessenay, and that an illustrated dictionary of the communes of the Rhône shows an engraving of the “old château du Mas”. Whether the listed property occupies the building in that engraving is not confirmed.
