Loučeň is a small market town north of Nymburk whose Baroque château grew out of a medieval fortress first mentioned in 1223. Chateau Loucen Garden Retreat is listed in the town centre, about 200 metres from the château, and offers an indoor pool, sauna, two restaurants and a daily breakfast. The English-style park next door holds the Labyrintharium, a collection of mazes opened in 2007.
Chateau Loucen Garden Retreat is presented by Expedia as a château in a luxurious style, with wellness at its heart. Guests can use an indoor pool (open from 7 am to 10 pm), a sauna and massage, and relax in a garden with sun loungers by the pool, a terrace, a barbecue and a picnic area. Two restaurants serve regional cuisine, and there is also a bar and lounge.
The rooms are described with parquet flooring, soundproofing, high-quality bedding, bathrobes and slippers, a private bathroom, a safe, a desk, a kettle, satellite TV and central heating. Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms, and room service, daily housekeeping, dry cleaning and a concierge are listed. A breakfast is included every day.
For business or celebrations the property also has a conference room and a banquet hall. Bicycles can be hired, an electric-vehicle charging point is on site, and staff can help plan tours and buy tickets.
The château stands on the site of a medieval fortress. Its Baroque form dates from the early 18th century, and the Catholic church of the Assumption, linked to the château, goes back to a 14th-century church according to Wikipedia. The château and church have been protected as a cultural monument of Czechia.
In the 19th and early 20th centuries the Thurn und Taxis family, known for its postal services, made Loučeň a social and artistic meeting place; guests included the poets Rainer Maria Rilke and Hugo von Hofmannsthal. Electricity arrived in 1911, the interiors first opened to the public in 1929, and after the Second World War the château passed to the Ministry of Defence before its modern restoration.
