This private spa suite in a manor house sits in the centre of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, a spa town in the Nord department of northern France. Expedia lists it as a château in the town centre; guests have a sauna, a whirlpool, a fireplace and air conditioning, and the station is five minutes away on foot. The famous abbey tower and the thermal baths are within a kilometre.
This is a suite rather than a whole castle: Expedia lists a “private spa suite in a manor house” in the middle of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, run by a private host. The category text calls it a château in the town centre, but the listing does not name the house, so it is described here as what it is: a manor house with a self-contained spa suite.
The listing highlights the spa: a sauna and a whirlpool, plus a fireplace, air conditioning and central heating for every season. The photos show a sauna with wooden benches and a glass door, a spa area with a large tub and a decorative arch, a modern bathroom with a glass shower, a dining table laid with flowers, glasses and cutlery, and a balcony with a table and chairs against a brick wall.
Practical comforts include free Wi-Fi in the rooms, bed linen and towels, soap, shampoo, a hair dryer, a fridge, a kettle for coffee and tea, and a TV with cable and satellite channels. The garden has outdoor furniture, and there is parking on site.
The springs were known to the Romans, who built baths on the site around 50 BC. After the battle of Lens in 1648, Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Habsburg, governor of the Netherlands, was reportedly cured here of a kidney complaint, and the waters were later praised by the playwright Jean Racine. The tower of the abbey church, now a museum, still stands over the town.
This is the history of the town around the suite: the sources for this guide do not document the history of the manor house itself.
The details below come from the Expedia listing (as of 14 Oct 2026); please check the listing for the exact set-up.
Saint-Amand-les-Eaux lies between Valenciennes and Tournai, on the border with Belgium, at the edge of the Scarpe-Escaut Regional Natural Park. Expedia places the suite in the town centre, five minutes’ walk from the railway station; the abbey tower and the thermal baths are under a kilometre away, and the Bistrot de Paris is a ten-minute walk.
By car, Expedia gives about 30 minutes to Lille-Lesquin airport, and the Casino of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux is five minutes away. The listing mentions the Scarpe-Escaut park and the Nord-Pas de Calais mining basin within about 2 km, the Beauregard labyrinth within about 10 km, and in Lille the Grand Palais, the Grand Place and the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
The Belgian cities of Tournai and Mons, and French Valenciennes, Douai and Lille, are all within an hour’s travel and make easy day trips.
