Estrup Hovedgaard is a Danish manor house (herregård) in the parish of Malt, near Brørup and Vejen in South Jutland. Its history reaches back to the 16th century, while the present main building dates from 1721 and is a protected monument. Guests can stay overnight in the countryside, with a library, café and restaurant, within reach of Ribe, Kolding and Billund.
To stay overnight at Estrup Hovedgaard is to sleep in a real Danish herregård, the kind of country seat that once ran a large agricultural estate. The Expedia listing shows a historic main building with a central entrance flanked by two wings and a cobbled drive, and a white building with a steep gabled roof. All guest rooms are individually furnished and, according to the listing, have their own bathroom with a shower, bathrobes, a hairdryer, a desk, central heating and free Wi-Fi.
Shared spaces add to the old-house atmosphere: there is a fireplace in the lobby, a common living room, a library and a shared fridge. The property also lists a café and a restaurant, space for private picnics, romantic and proposal packages, a champagne service and private dining for couples. Multilingual staff are available, although the front desk is staffed only at certain times, so it is worth agreeing your arrival in advance.
A continental breakfast is served every day from 7.30 am to 10 am at an extra charge. Rooms are cleaned on request, and there is a laundry and luggage storage. The building has no lift, which is worth remembering if you have heavy bags or limited mobility.
Estrup lies in Malt parish and Malt Herred, a historic district of the former Ribe County, which since 2007 has been part of Vejen Municipality. Danish manor houses like this one were centres of farming and forestry, and the title of its builder, royal chief forester and master of the hunt, points to the estate’s link with woodland and game.
Detailed accounts of the owners and the building’s interior are scarce in the sources used for this guide, so nothing more is claimed here. What is documented is the combination of an old estate, an 18th-century main building and a protected status, which is exactly what makes a night here feel different from a standard hotel.
The details below come from the Expedia listing (as of 14 Oct 2026); room details may vary from room to room.
The manor stands on the Esbjergvej road in the countryside of South Jutland, in Malt parish. The nearest town centres are Brørup, about 3 km away, and Vejen, about 5 km, a railway town between Kolding and Esbjerg. Brørup station is about 6 minutes away by car, according to Expedia.
Close by are Askov Højskole, the churches of Malt and Brørup, and the Vejen Art Museum. Expedia also mentions the Jels nature and planet trail, the golf clubs of Vejen and Holsted, the Troldepark and the Glad Zoo among the area’s highlights.
Further afield, three of Jutland’s best-known sights lie roughly 26 km away: LEGOLAND in Billund, Koldinghus castle in Kolding and the medieval town of Ribe. The Jelling stones are about 37 km away, so all of them work as day trips by car.
