Mansfield Castle Hotel stands in Tain, the Highland town that is known as Scotland’s oldest royal burgh. The stone-built, Category B listed hotel with its tower offers individually furnished rooms, a restaurant, a bar and a garden, ten minutes’ walk from the local museum and a short drive from the Glenmorangie distillery and the Dornoch Firth.
To stay at Mansfield Castle Hotel is to sleep in a stone-built Highland landmark with a tower and a garden, rather than in an anonymous chain hotel. According to Expedia, the rooms are individually furnished and soundproofed, with free Wi-Fi, a private bathroom with bath or shower, a hair dryer, towels, shampoo, a TV, a kettle with tea and coffee, and central heating.
Downstairs there is a restaurant serving dinner and a bar/lounge. A full breakfast is available every day for an extra charge, from 7.30 to 9.30 am. Reception is staffed around the clock, and the hotel offers a safe at the desk, luggage storage and a laundry service; staff can also help with planning tours and buying tickets.
The hotel also has a business centre, a meeting room, a banquet hall and a wedding service, so weddings and small gatherings are part of its life. There is no lift, and an extra bed can be added for a supplement.
The sources used for this guide do not give a construction date or the builders of the hotel building, so this page does not guess. What is certain is that it is a protected, Category B listed building, and that the town around it has pilgrimage and burgh history reaching back to the 11th century.
Notable buildings in town include Tain Tolbooth and St Duthus Collegiate Church, and the local history museum, Tain Through Time, is about ten minutes away on foot.
The details below come from the Expedia listing (as of 14 Oct 2026); room details may vary from room to room.
